Thornton, CO is located just 10 miles east/northeast of downtown Denver, CO. Thornton consisted only of farmland until 1953, when it began development. Thornton was named in honor of Former Colorado Governor Dan Thornton.
According to City-Data.com, the 2017 population of Thornton is 136,978. The median household income in Thornton in 2017 was $77,092 and the median price of a single family home or condo was $324,800.
Many unique shopping opportunities can be found in Thornton. The Denver Premium Outlets, which opened in 2018, offers more than 60 retailers and a children's play area along with many dining choices.
Larkridge Shopping Center has many retailers including Colorado's first Sears Grand, and Costco, as well as offices, banks and many eateries.
In addition to diners, dollar stores, fast food venues and office supply stores, Thorncreek Crossing Shopping Center is home to a World Market, Target, Michael's, Barnes & Noble and a Sprout's Farmers Market.
Recreation options in Thornton are endless. With over 140 trails and more than 2500 acres of park land, it could take years to explore the many Parks, Open Spaces and Trails. The City provides many programs and facilities for residents including those found at the Carpenter Recreation Center, Trail Winds Recreation Center, the Thornton Community Center, and the Active Adult Center.
Eastlake Trail and Nature Preserve consists of a 1.7 mile walking loop and contains a wildlife viewing boardwalk and platform that will not disappoint. Great summer time fun can be found at Water World. Springvale Park has an amazing disc golf course. Thorncreek Golf Course offers real golf opportunities. And Top Golf offers a high-tech golfing games that everyone can enjoy.
The City of Thornton has utilized a drive-by art experience for the community in their program known as Outside the Box utility boxes. Local artists were commissioned to create artwork for the local utility boxes in hopes of reducing/eliminating grafitti. The designs are printed on high quality vinyl wraps and placed in various locations around the city.
